Each fall, Corinth Middle School's best mathematicians are selected for participation in the MATHCOUNTS training program. MATHCOUNTS is a national competition program designed to stimulate middle grade students' interest and achievement in mathematics. The program exists in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the Department of Defense and State Department schools and is supported by the National Society of Professional Engineers at the state and local levels.
Intensive training is required before and after school in order to build proficiency in solving MATHCOUNTS questions which are unique in that they require students to apply the skills they learn in mathematics class to solve complex problems. Each spring the team participates in tournaments which allow them to match wits with the best middle grade students in the state. MATHCOUNTS reveals the value and purpose of mathematics, results in raised ACT scores and is the first step in turning a good math student into a mathematician.
